| Denise Smith said she was devastated when Corky — her constant companion for more than a decade — failed to return to her home in the Polepark area of the city after being let out on Wednesday afternoon.
She believes his disappearance is the direct result of Corky — who requires daily treatment for a medical condition — being traumatised by thieves who raided her flat two nights earlier.
Denise, who suffers from cerebral ataxia and is partially blind, appealed to anyone who may have seen Corky to get in touch with the local Cats Protection League, who have been carrying out searches for the missing animal.
She said, “It has been like a bad, bad dream. I got things stolen from my house last Monday and my cat is very protective of me and on Tuesday he would not leave my side.
“I let him out on Wednesday as usual but he’s never been back. He has to take pills every day and if he doesn’t he goes lethargic and bangs into things.
“I’ve not been out of the house since I came out of hospital a couple of weeks ago and he is very important to me.”
Lyn Flanders, of Dundee Cats Protection League, said it was vitally important Corky was found. She said she had conducted searches of the area around his home at the weekend — including a check of the gardens at the Friary in Tullideph Road.
She said, “Amongst other things Corky’s pills were taken in the burlgary. He needs them for a neurological problem.
“Unless he gets those pills daily he could go off the legs and that is what I fear may have happened.”
The police today confirmed they were investigating a report of a break-in at Ms Smith’s home. Anyone with information is asked to call 0845 6005705.
Anyone with information about Corky’s whereabouts should call Lyn Flanders on Dundee 542599. |
