First flight for Christine

A Dundee woman had her dream come true this week as she experienced her first ever flight.
Christine Nicholson, who attends the Jean Drummond Centre in Dundee’s Earl Street, flew from Edinburgh to Cardiff for the day.

Christine was accompanied on the trip by staff from the day care centre, which supports adults with learning difficulties, and two other women who attend the centre, Ina Kilgour and Margaret Manby. Kay Sievewright, senior day care officer, said, “This came about last year when Christine said she had never been on an aeroplane.

“It’s not really our remit to take them on a holiday as such and we had a lot on last year, so we left it until this year then started looking for flights in February.

“We initially thought of Dublin, but it was working out a little expensive. We found a fabulous deal on flights to Cardiff and no one had been there, so we thought it would be nice.

“We couldn’t just take Christine on her own, so we decided to bring along another couple of women from the centre.”

A volunteer from Dundee’s Grey Lodge Settlement drove the group to Edinburgh Airport at 4 am and Kay gave her thanks to the fellow charity for its support.

She added, “Cardiff was a huge success and enjoyed by everyone.”
