DENS MEN OFF TO MALTA
They were swapping rain in Manchester for Mediterranean sunshine and an increase in temperature of around 20C, so Dundee boss Alex Rae felt little need for explanations as his squad touched down in Malta today (writes Tom Duthie).
The Dark Blues will spend the next 10 days in a training camp on the island and Alex sees it as the prefect way to kick off the build-up to another First Division campaign.

“We’ll train first thing in the morning and again in the evening to avoid the hottest part of the day, but, when you see the weather we’ve left behind, it makes sense to be doing this,” he said.

“Over the next week or so, we will be working in perfect conditions and should be able to get a lot done without worrying about the weather.

“We’ve also got new faces on board, so getting the boys together should help the squad gel quickly.”

Included in the travelling party are two trialists who will have the chance over the next week or so to show they are worth contracts.

While Alex expects conditions to be perfect for most of the stay, the players could be in for some noise pollution tomorrow evening — 1980s super group Duran Duran have a concert right next to the training complex.
