| Over 600 members of the Unite union, employed by two companies, began delivering fuel to Shell garages for the first time since the end of last week.
As the strike ended, at least one Dundee forecourt was still without fuel this morning after some panic buying by motorists in the city.
The petrol tanks at Sainsbury’s on Claypotts Road were still empty this morning, with staff at the store not sure when they could expect a delivery.
A spokesperson for the supermarket told the Tele there was no update on when the pumps would be up and running again.
“We are trying to resume supply as soon as possible and we're working hard to rectify the situation,” she said.
Tesco Express in Dalhousie Road has run out, but hopes to have a delivery tomorrow.
Morrisons Afton Way store received a delivery last night.
A spokesperson said, “We have seen high levels of demand this week, but they are now returning to normal and we continue to have regular deliveries to our forecourts.”
Shell outlets in the city appeared to cope well with the strike and capped panic buying by introducing a £20-a-fill limit.
Amanda Heenan from Shell Discovery, East Marketgait said the limit ensured supplies were not used up over the weekend.
Although no forecourts had to close in Perth, some filling stations have been forced to operate at less than full capacity.
Among them is the Strathtay Services in Edinburgh Road, which today had a limited number of unleaded pumps available.
Many Shell petrol stations in Fife have run dry. Garages in Leslie Road, Glenrothes, Hendry Road, Kirkcaldy and Bawbee Brigg, Leven are all indefinitely out of fuel.
Shell South Parks in Roxburgh Road in Glenrothes was the only one in Central Fife to get a delivery this morning.
Despite the shortages at Shell, there appeared to be no panic buying at other stations in the area, with both BP on St Clair Street in Kirkcaldy and the Kirkcaldy Esso at Wemyssfield reporting no dramatic change to sales.
Arbroath petrol stations were reporting business as usual today. Staff at the Montrose Road Shell garage reported little or no impact over the weekend.
They said they had been able to sell fuel as normal throughout the strike.
It was a similar picture at Morrisons in the centre of town.
Across the UK, the industrial action caused shortages of one or more types of fuel at half of Shell’s 582 sites, with 121 running out altogether.
More than 600 ran out of petrol or diesel yesterday — 7% of the 8900 sites in the country.
Union officials will meet again with managers from Hoyer and Suckling at a secret location later today to try to break the deadlock row over pay.
The union says there will be another four-day strike from 6am on Friday if the dispute is not resolved. |
