| At the presentation ceremony in the Caird Hall, June Craig (59) collected her SVQ in business and administration.
June attends the Jean Drummond Centre in Earl Street, which is a day care centre for adults with learning difficulties, and she is now a role model for her peers at the centre, who have been inspired by her achievements.
She is the first person from the adult day care centre to complete the course and she will now be able to help the volunteers with the running of the centre.
Speaking to the Tele she said, “What I was never able to do when I was younger, I’ve been able to do now. When they picked me to do the course, I was really surprised.”
After attending the centre for around 20 years, June said she feels happy she can now give something back to the staff at the centre.
“Now I can do things for the staff and give something back to the people that have helped me for so long.
“They have been so good helping me and it’s nice to be able to do my bit.
“I just feel really proud of myself.”
While she was studying, staff at the centre helped June with some of the written work and the college gave her support in dealing with some of the jargon.
Kay Sievewright, senior day care officer said, “Especially with the health and safety part, there can be quite a lot of jargon so the college helped make it ‘June friendly.’
“It’s great June has done this and it will be a big help to the centre.
“Now there are four or five others that have seen what June has done and want to do the same.
“Hopefully, she will act as a role model and give others the confidence to study.” |
