Give me chance to prove myself
I have been out of work for over two months and I feel like I will never get another job. This is the longest time I have ever been unemployed. Before I had never had a problem in finding another job.

I admit I have criminal convictions, but the last time I was at court was more than 10 years ago. In past jobs I’ve had I have always admitted this up front and still got the job.

I was made redundant a couple of months ago. I applied for one job and was sent an application form, which I filled in. One question asked if I had any previous convictions, I admitted I had.

I have received no reply. This has now happened on more than one occasion.

I have visited recruitment agencies and have admitted my past. Again no reply.

In my opinion employers know that there are plenty of Polish, Russian and other foreigners out there who are looking for work and they can have their pick, so if you have any convictions you don’t stand a chance of getting a job. They don’t, or won’t, believe people can change.

I don’t want to be stuck in the house watching daytime TV and trying to survive off £60 a week. I also don’t want to leave Dundee to find work but the way things are I don’t think I will have any choice.

I’ve nothing against other nationalities working in Dundee. I understand they only want a better life for themselves and their families. All I ask is for an equal opportunity. My past is my past, it was a long time ago and the number of jobs I have applied for and had no reply from has really knocked my confidence.

Give me a chance to prove myself. — Reformed, Dundee.

Unsafe park

The overgrown banking around the new playpark.

After visiting Dundee’s Swannie Ponds with my husband and two young boys to see the newborn signets, I felt disgusted at the state of this park.

None of the grass appears to have been cut in a long time, but specifically the new play park mounds, which haven’t been cut since it was completed last year.

At the time I was full of praise for DCC for installing this play park, as the old one had suffered with years of decline.

However, why spend all this time and money if the playpark and park itself aren’t maintained? The water in both ponds is virtually stagnant and a filthy layer of scum floats on the surface. Surely this creates some kind of health and safety risk for the children who use the park.

As for the grass, well, instead of letting my kids down to run about in a park that’s two minutes from my house, I walk further, or indeed drive, to find a better-maintained park. Who knows what is in the long grass? Dog dirt or something worse.

This could be a great park, with a brand new play area and somewhere to see the beautiful swans, signets and ducks. Instead it looks a mess and is ultimately unsafe to enjoy. — Park Lover.

Someone will be injured or worse
Over the last few days I have witnessed some of the most appalling driving from bus drivers which put other road users’ and passengers’ lives at risk.

At the junction of West Park Road and Perth Road I watched a bus pull out from its stop despite the fact a car was passing at the time.

The bus driver was clearly aware of the car trying to pass and still kept going, almost forcing the car into oncoming traffic. The bus driver then looked, smiled and shook his head, almost as if he was pleased with himself.

Then, while I was driving along Fintry Drive a bus coming towards me pulled out to pass parked cars, forcing me to brake and pull into a parking bay, almost hitting a car.

While I accept most bus drivers are very safe and sensible and do a good and difficult job, it is drivers like the two mentioned that give them a bad name. Sadly what’s more with driving like that it is only a matter of time before someone is injured or worse. — Car Driver, Dundee.

Young not getting Dry Up message
Having read the report about Operation Dry Up, it would appear youngsters are not getting the message.

As in other instances, why don’t the police name and shame the culprits?

Then again, I daresay some do-gooder would say that was against their human rights.

What about the rights of the general public who have to suffer the abuse from some of these people? — Concerned.

Favourite place
I have spent two years working in Scotland recently but have returned to Poland. I enjoyed my stay in Scotland and the Scottish people are wonderful. I made many friends.

Scotland has many historic links with Poland. There are many Polish people with Scottish surnames as businesses were founded in Poland and engineers from Glasgow helped to build our railway system.

Dundee is a favourite place for me. Many people told me they remembered Polish soldiers from the Second World War.

I returned to Poland to marry and intend to visit Scotland and Dundee in future. Thank you for your hospitality. — Dunkan Makyorgrazgro, Warsaw, Poland.

Policy underfunded
If the SNP Executive is serious about lowering some primary class numbers to a maximum of 18, why are thousands of newly qualified teachers heading straight for the dole queue?

Local authorities, including ones that are SNP-led, have to make big cuts in education budgets to meet their side of the agreement to freeze council tax.

Now we hear the EIS is planning to ballot for strike action. A lack of funding is the problem.

It is clear the SNP’s policy on education is underfunded. That spells trouble for everyone, especially our kids. — Politico.
