The eight women will set off at midnight on Saturday and walk through Edinburgh to complete the half-marathon MoonWalk route.

Over 12,000 are taking part in the sponsored trek to raise money and awareness for vital breast cancer causes in Scotland. Each participant wears a specially decorated bra during the walk to highlight the breast cancer charity and major buildings on the route will be lit up in pink.

Senior radiographer Wilma Beer, said the team is looking forward to the challenge. She added, “The event raise money for breast cancer and, as we work in the X-ray department here, we see a quite a lot of that kind of thing so we are always looking for something to do to help.

“We have sponsorship from family and friends and are hoping to raise £1000.”

Similar events are held in London and Bristol and are organised by Walk the Walk, a charity set up in 1996 by former breast cancer sufferer Nina Barough.
