| David Kaye beat off tough competition at the British Natural Bodybuilding Federation Scottish Championships to achieve the top title of Mr Scotland.
The 25-year-old also scooped trophies for BNBF Best Scottish Wheels (legs) and BNBF Scottish Novice Champion 2008 at the event, held in Glasgow on Sunday.
David has been a keen sportsman since his schooldays at Morgan Academy. After leaving school he went on to become a qualified English teacher and a certified personal trainer and nutritionist.
He explained, “The Scottish qualifier is a notoriously tough competition, and the standard is always very high — it is typically the largest show in terms of competitor numbers.
“I have always been heavily involved in sport, competing at national level in both swimming and athletics. I also won the title of European Fitness Model Champion earlier in the year.”
He went on to explain that none of these achievements compare to his remarkable accomplishment on Sunday.
“This was my first ever bodybuilding show, so to win my individual class, novice, was incredible, but to win the award for best legs and then the overall title of Mr Scotland against all other class winners was just a fairytale ending to a fantastic show,” he said.
Preparation for such a show requires years of hard training and dedication, and David admits it has proved more challenging than any other sport he’s taken part in.
His training included eating the right foods at the right times and training to his optimum ability.
Although this meant his social life was put on hold for a while, he said the months of dedication were worth every second of being on the stage and winning. He attributed special thanks to those involved with The Body Academy Gym, in Perth, where he trains, and to Harry Ogg, owner of Body Tone Warehouse, in Dundee, who helped him prepare for the contest.
David is hoping to continue his dream when he competes at the British finals. This next stage will see him battle it out for the British title at the BNBF British Championships in Glasgow on October 12.
The winner of the overall title will earn themselves professional status, with which they’re invited to compete round the world. |
