African children’s choir in Dundee
The Singing Children of Africa Choir makes a first visit to Dundee next week as part of its Love is All Around Us UK Tour.
The choir will be giving a concert to raise money for the Samson Chivatsi African Children’s Appeal, which was established in 1998 by Scots Ian and Maureen McIntyre.

After visiting a school while on holiday in Kenya, Maureen and Ian were greatly affected by the poverty, poor health and lack of facilities suffered by the children.

Back in Scotland, Maureen set up the charity and sponsorship pro-gramme to give the poorest children in the Utange area, near Mombasa, access to a good education.

Three schools and an orphanage now cater for hundreds of children.

During their visit to Dundee, the children of the choir and their teachers will stay with local families.

They have also been invited to spend time with Ancrum Road Primary pupils as part of their Africa Week, seeing what school life is like in Dundee, performing songs for the pupils and perhaps learning some traditional songs in return.

The concert is at 7pm on Tuesday, in the recently-refurbished Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bingham Terrace. Lord Provost John Letford, will be a special guest. It’s open to the public, and tickets at £3, are available at the door.
