Now the dust has settled on the NCR redundancies I would be interested to find out where the £1.5 million awarded to the Pace group has gone.
I was unfortunate enough to be one of those made redundant. Luckily, I found other work, but with no help from Pace.
I still know several ex-NCR employees who are not yet working. Almost to a man/woman not one of them has had help from the group.
I know of only one ex-employee helped by Pace but only because it was in the Press.
I’m sure most ex-NCR employees would like to see a breakdown of exactly where the £1.5 million went. — Ex-NCR.
Foreign workers at NCR
It has been almost a year since 648 workers lost their job at NCR.
Unions representing the workers should explain why they are accepting the company bringing in workers from NCR India on six-month visas to fill vacant Dundee office positions.
Why are these vacancies not being filled by Scottish workers? — R. O’Grady.
Lack of will
The new drugs strategy is a joke, and like so many other initiatives it will not work.
The politicians who run the nation do not have the will or the power to sort things out.
Heroin abusers are looked on as victims rather than “criminals” who chose to become addicts.
As sure as the sun rises each morning, in 10 or 20 years time, the same drug scourge, crime and violence, will still be rampant in Dundee. — A. G.
Lax policy
The authorities should flood the streets with laxative-laced drugs.
Users would be somewhat reluctant to buy dope then. — R. L. S.
Struggling
My girlfriend went down to the Lily Walker Centre at the start of the year and we got a homeless assessment.
We had been living between two houses but now we are only living in one house.
There are six people in a three-bedroom home — myself, my girlfriend, my little daughter, mum, dad and sister.
Every time we phone the Lily Walker Centre we get the same spiel that they will get to it that day and phone us back. But they never do, and we are really struggling. — Scott Logie, Charleston Drive, Dundee.
Taxi licences
It’s the time of year for taxi licence renewals.
There are three types of taxi licence in Dundee. There should only be saloon licences or wheelchair accessible licences for all. This would put an end to arguing within the taxi trade.
Every operator should be in the same position as to which vehicle they wish to put on the road. — Same Licence For All.
Will be missed
Dundee’s Sound Control will be missed by the music community.
I’d like to thank Ralph, Rory and all who worked there over the years for an outstanding service. — Frankie Falconer.
Like walking with loaded gun ...
I believe Staffies should be banned. They are like walking around with a loaded gun.
My puppy was attacked by a Staffie recently. Did the Staffie just bite? No! It bit and clamped on and would not let go.
I had my hands in the Staffie’s mouth, but could not release its jaws from my puppy’s leg, even with all my might. My hands were obviously cut and I have a vet’s bill for hundreds of pounds for repair to my dog’s leg. These dogs are dangerous. Even my vet is sick of treating other animals attacked by them. — Disgusted Dog Owner.
Big fines might help
We have problems with a resident in the next street who lets her Border Collie out to wonder on its own.
One of my neighbours has already reported this to the dog warden, after the dog used her garden as a toilet.
We live very near Charlotte Park and when they do bother to take their dog for a walk there, it is never on a lead and they never pick up after their dog. Big fines would maybe put an end to this. — Fed-Up.
Rocky reunion
We are trying to organise a school reunion in Dundee during the weekend of August 23.
As most of us shall become senior citizens this year we thought it would be an ideal time to exchange our life history since leaving The Rocky.
If you left Rockwell Secondary School in the summer of 1963 — classes 3A2 and 3A4 — and are interested in getting together with your pals please contact one of the following jparsons3@bigpond.net.au or June on 07919141118 or tonyelaine@hotmail.com — Joyce Glancy, June Low and Elaine Crighton.
Getting right contact
I had contacted the police several times over the past few months regarding used syringes lying on stairs and paths in my area.
Each time the syringes were still there the following day.
I have since learned it is not the police who deal with this issue but the Dundee City Council’s rapid response team.
It is best practice to contact the council on the main switchboard number (01382 434000) and ask they put you through to the rapid response team as they will deal with it as fast as they can.
I have called this team four times in nine weeks and every time they have been out within an hour or two and removed the offending objects.
I hope this helps Shocked Resident who had complained of a needle in a drain in the Hilltown area.
Unfortunately, the problem with used drug paraphernalia is getting worse and worse.
We never used to see it in our city centre area, but not it’s almost a fortnightly occurrence. — Disgusted Mother.
Nine days and still no luggage
In response to Irate Golfer’s story, my partner and I were also on the Thomas Cook flight from Paphos to Glassgow on June 25 and our luggage was also left behind. Now nine days on and we are still waiting to be reunited with our luggage.
We were told last Tuesday our bags were in Manchester and would be delivered to us by Wednesday.
By Friday we were advised our luggage was actually still in Paphos and would not be delivered until Monday. Apparently now our luggage is in Birmingham with no estimated time of delivery.
We are disgusted at the disregard for our inconvenience.
We have received no communication from Thomas Cook regarding the delivery of our bags and all phone calls have been made at our expense. Our relaxing holiday has been marred by this experience. — Irate, Dundee.
Petrol rationing
With the price of food and oil soaring in the international markets, is it possible the government may have to introduce food and petrol rationing as happened during the second world war? Can anyone recall on what basis the rationed petrol was allocated? — Observer.
