| The store today donated a cheque for £500 to the Monifieth Area Partnership as the town bids to win the Beautiful Scotland competition for middle-sized towns.
The money will be used to purchase plants and shrubs which will be planted around the town over the coming weeks before the judges arrive in August.
Beautiful Scotland is a national competition run by the Scottish Govern-ment.
Monifieth will be competing against 10 other communities, including Cupar and Blairgowrie and Rattray.
Stuart Ellis of the Monifieth Area Partner-ship said, “The whole community has been getting behind the project. It’s fantastic for the whole town.
“We’ve had pupils from Monifieth High showing their support as well as church groups and other local organisations.
“I’ve had people phoning up wondering if there is anything they can do to help with fundraising. It’s great!”
So far the town has raised over £6000 for the project, with money being used to invigorate a number of locations throughout the town as well as helping to regenerate a patch of undeveloped land near the Tesco store.
Fundraising started in October, and Mr Ellis said he was delighted the competition was making such a positive impact on the community.
“It has provided a great focus for everyone in Monifieth. The more we put into projects like this, the more we can do to make the town nicer to live in and nicer for tourists to visit.” |
