| Braeview Academy pupil Daryl Beattie (14) was subjected to a brutal attack on Friday lunchtime. Three hooded youths pinned him down, cut chunks out of his hair and shaved his eyebrows — all of which was recorded on a mobile phone.
Daryl has to go to his doctor today and faces an anxious wait to see if the razor that cut his eye will cause any long-term damage.
The Dundee boy’s mum, Sharon McCourt, is now concerned about her son’s health as it emerged the attack happened behind Whitfield Complex — an area known to be frequented by drug users — and not in the grounds of Braeview Academy.
She told the Tele, “Today we are going to have to go and get bloods taken, and now we know it happened behind the Whitfield Complex we’re even more worried.
“Daryl’s really not keen to go to the doctor, and we’re not sure how long it might take to get the results back. It’s going to be a nervous wait. It’s better to get these things checked out, though, to make sure everything is okay.”
The family have heard rumours that suggest Daryl could know the attackers.
Over the weekend, the teenager has not left his home, and his mum says he will not be returning to Braeview Academy.
“He’s not left the house since it happened — he’s been really down this weekend,” Sharon said.
“We’ve heard a couple of names going around, but we’re still not sure exactly who did it. We’re now facing the possibility it could have been someone he knows, which makes it even harder for him.”
Over the weekend video footage on mobile phones was circulating. Some of Daryl’s cousins and family friends have seen the video and the family are trying frantically to track down a copy to show police.
A spokesperson for Tayside Police said, “Officers will be attending at the school today as part of the investigation into the alleged incident. We will also be arranging to speak to the complainer later today.”
An education spokesperson from Dundee City Council said, “The school continues to take it seriously.” |
