Ludo still in picture
He was edging towards signing a new keeper today, but Dundee boss Alex Rae refused to rule out the possibility of club captain Ludovic Roy being between the sticks when next season kicks off (writes Tom Duthie).
Rab Douglas and Derek Soutar have been in talks with their former club and it is odds-on one will sign before the weekend is out.

That’s led to an assumption that Roy will be, at best, back-up next term and could even move on this summer, but Alex was quick to set the record straight.

“I need another goalkeeper because Craig Samson is moving on and I am looking for a proven first-team player, who is quality,” he said.

“No-one in any position in my team, though, will be told they are an automatic starter and the idea is for the new man and Ludo to be competing for the jersey.

“That was the situation with him and Sammy last year and I want the same again — I definitely want Ludo here because he is an excellent keeper and great to have about the dressing-room.

“He was unlucky with injury last season, but he is a very good pro and that’s why he is club captain.”

The official bidding has now started for star midfielder Kevin McDonald, with Burnley being knocked back after offering just £250,000.

The manager expects more offers involving more cash and from more illustrious names.

“The first thing I’d say, is Kevin is still here and I would love that to be the case for next season. I do live in the real world and, with the level of clubs we are talking, if someone came in with a good offer, we would have to listen,” added Alex.

“People are well aware of his technique and potential — I was in Hong Kong last week and someone from the Championship approached me there — and I would expect others to be contacting us in the next few months.”

Both United and Dundee fans should note their clubs’ “early bird” season ticket discount offers end at the weekend.

At Tannadice, the club shop will be open between 9 am-4 pm tomorrow and again from 10 am-4 pm on Sunday. The priority period for Barcelona tickets has been extended to close of business Tuesday. Over the road at Dens Park, supporters have until 3 pm tomorrow to benefit from the reduced prices.
