| The strategy, welcomed by NHS Tayside, emphasises the provision of a range of treatments and interventions to meet individual needs.
Meanwhile, there has already been a significant change in the way harm reduction services operate in Dundee over the last six months.
“NHS Tayside and its partners did a redesign of harm reduction services and that is happening at the moment,” explained Dr Kidd.
“The purpose of the redesign is to increase access to needle exchange, from very centralised, health service-based to much more dispersed access making more use of community pharmacies and the voluntary sector.
“There are more sites where people can use needle exchange. I’m sure the NHS Tayside board would say, and I would echo, that access to needle exchange has been improved by that redesign.” |
