| The petition was started by Mr Barry Young, who has had two near accidents on the much-publicised S-bend near the Rowanlea Riding School.
The road has been discussed at meetings held by Angus Council, and although it was agreed action is required, a council committee voted nothing should be done, deciding to wait for it to be looked at under a wider report on roads deemed dangerous across the county.
Local campaigner Eddie Wilmott said, “Considerable momentum is being generated by the online petition. One factor which cannot be readily ignored is the number of signatories who say they have had ‘a near miss’ on this road.”
Mr Wilmott has reminded Angus Council that wind-blown sand is still making the route more dangerous than it should be.
“Although the roadway has received attention, it would appear the embankments, and the bus stop areas, are still in need of attention,” he continued.
“In February I was led to believe that a clean-up operation would take place in the better weather. I am asking that Angus Council give this situation serious attention.
“This can be considered a maintenance matter and I look forward to progress in the short term.”
Mr Young added, “The absolute minimum the council could do is to clear the banks at the side so that there is at least clear visibility at the bends.
