| But, as residents had feared, the travellers left a trail of rubbish behind them, as well as a large amount of garden waste.
The travellers moved on last night after camping illegally on the ground for a week.
It is thought the piles of branches and garden waste dumped by the group came from gardening jobs they undertook for people in the city.
There are also several piles of bin bags and other rubbish left near to homes — and even an old bath.
Barbara Cunningham, whose South Road home is close to the patch of land where the travellers had been staying, said, “They didn’t make a noise, they weren’t rowdy.
“There was a lot of coming and going. We were aware of them because they had a generator on all night.
“But the main problem is that they’ve left all this rubbish.
“There are bags and bags of it.
“It looks a mess and might be dangerous to the wildlife as well.”
As late as yesterday afternoon, owners of the land, Scottish Enterprise, would not be drawn on when the travellers would be moved from the site — but did say they expected them to be moved imminently.
They said legal proceedings were under way and expected to liaise with Dundee City Council and the police to get the travellers to depart.
Yesterday, Scottish Enterprise gave a commitment to “take the necessary steps to clean up the site following their removal”.
Last night, three caravans were still camped on land to the south of the Carseview Centre at Dundee Medipark. |
