Fixture clash a possibility
Dundee United are hoping to avoid a city clash when they meet Barcelona in a glamour friendly on Saturday, July 26 (writes Graeme Finnan).
The Catalan giants, who have also arranged a game against Hibs at Murrayfield two days earlier, have confirmed they will return to Tannadice for a pre-season fixture.

However, Dundee are due to be in Challenge Cup action on the same day and, although that competition has still to be drawn, there is the possibility of a home tie at Dens.

Should that be the case, United officials are hopeful an amicable solution can be found.

A Tannadice spokesman said, “We received permission and approval for the Barcelona game to take place on July 26 from SFA, SPL and Tayside Police some weeks ago.

“This was before the SFL announced that it would be a Challenge Cup date.

“However, in view of the importance of the fixture, and the boost that this gives to the local and surrounding economy in terms of media exposure and tourism benefits, we’d like to think our neighbours would be happy to discuss an amicable accommodation if there is now going to be a clash.”

Meanwhile, the Tangerines have announced ticket details for the Barca game.

Prices have been set at £27/£30 for adults (lower/top tiers respectively), and £14/£16 for concessions. Sales to all Dundee United season ticket holders for season 2008/2009 will commence at 9 am on Friday and last until Sunday, June 1, with general sales commencing thereafter.

The priority period is reserved for those who have purchased season tickets during the Early Bird period, which ends on Sunday, June 1.

However, all priority sales will be subject to availability and sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

Tickets can be purchased in person at the club shop, by mail, or by telephone on (01382) 833166 (option 1), using a credit/debit card.

Tickets can also be ordered online. Supporters should note there is only a very limited number of concession priced tickets available, applicable to under-18s and over 60s. These will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no student concession ticket.
