| Over the next few days, questionnaires will be sent out to 10,000 households in the city and surrounding areas.
As well as requesting information, the survey will encourage people to fill in the questionnaire by offering the chance to win £100.
A council spokesman said they want to hear from as many local residents as possible, including people who own or rent their homes and those living in large or small houses, regardless of whether or not they feel they are in housing need.
He said the study will be looking at the need for affordable housing for rent in Dundee and the surrounding areas in the council and housing association sectors and at affordable homes to buy.
The survey is being carried out by Craigforth Consultants.
The results of the research will be used by the council to decide how best to meet housing needs in the city.
It is expected the results will be available in the autumn.
Councillor George Regan, convener of the housing committee, said, “Residents’ views are vital to this study and it is important to us that as many people fill in the survey as possible so that the council can ensure that decisions about meeting housing need are based on sound information.
“The council started preparations for this study late last year and it reflects our commitment to ensuring the best quality of housing is provided for the citizens of Dundee.”
Given that timescale, the survey pre-dates the housing row which has been simmering between the Labour-led council administration and the SNP opposition group for the past few weeks.
However, the timing may fit in well with the series of housing reports — called for by administration leader Kevin Keenan — dealing with stock condition, investment strategy tenant participation, estate management and repairs. |
