Something has to be done about the amount of drugs in Dundee.
I moved here about a year ago and cannot enjoy a night out any more as every other person seems to be off his or her face on drugs.
Clubs and pubs should be closed down if people are using in the toilets.
This drug use has become as normal as a pint. I intend passing on information to police next time I see this. — No To Drugs.
Roadwork concerns
The scene on the Kingsway at the Forfar Road junction.
I have grave concerns over the danger that the Forfar Road/Kingsway roundabout poses during the roadworks.
At the top of the Forfar Road is a makeshift roundabout. However many of the Kingsway drivers in both east and westbound directions seem oblivious to this.
Only this morning my partner and I were nearly flattened by a high speed articulated lorry heading westbound, which did not give way at the roundabout.
It was only 10 minutes earlier we had passed the same junction with our nine-month-old daughter in the back of the car.
Recently, small “Give Way” signs were added to each entrance onto the roundabout, but clearly these are not enough.
Large signs need to be added to ensure that drivers realise that it is a roundabout and should give way to the right before a person or child is killed. — David Webster.
Sad state for Lochee
Lochee Lady is not the only one with concerns over the area and the sad state it has been allowed to fall into.
We are told there are plans in the pipeline for the whole area, but nothing happens.
Dundee City Council must stand up and be counted over the run down state of Lochee High Street.
The death knell for the high street was the relocated Post Office in Tesco.
That killed independent traders and the knock-on effect is now too clearly seen.
When the public collects pensions in the supermarket, they stay to do their shopping.
My heart goes out to the traders and companies who are still on the High Street striving to make a living. — M. Souter, Dundee.
Bus changes
Why has Dundee Travel changed the routes of the 18 and 19 buses?
The bottom half of Kirkton, Trottick Village and Trottick, Millburn Gardens and West March has no service without a bus to Asda. Travel Dundee say it’s to take in the new school, but there are already buses stopping on Old Glamis Road and cross city buses stop in Gillburn Road right next to the school. Travel Dundee should think again. — Mrs Whyte, Prieston Road, West March, Dundee.
Jury plans
I support plans to reduce the numbers serving on a jury. The current tally of 15 in a criminal trial is too high. England and America have 12. Scotland should have around seven or eight jury members. — Dryburgh Reader, Dundee.
Station upgrade pleas continue
I endorse MP Jimmy McGovern and Councillor Morrow’s stance on the upgrading of Dundee Railway Station.
It’s so hard to manoeuvre suitcases/children down the staircase when the lift is full.
In the winter the waiting areas are freezing. Recently I was astonished to see dog mess all along the platform while waiting for the Edinburgh train.
It’s about time something was down to upgrade this sorry excuse for a station. — Disgusted, Dundee.
Lack of vision
There is a growing problem of the lack of vision in Dundee for transport.
The rail station shows a complete lack of funding and definitely not the first place on which you would want visitors to set eyes.
Unfortunately Network Rail, First Scotrail and the Scottish Government have shown bias towards the central belt with no real plans for Dundee.
When Joe Morrow highlighted the point last week it was said that a ticket gate and CCTV has been installed. Wow!
Also unlike other cities and towns Dundee still does not have a Park & Ride system. I ask the council and Transport Scotland to wake up and make a difference. — Mr Braid.
More ice creams
I remember a Lochee slider as two wafers with ice cream and a chocolate flake. — Old Timer.
Many combinations
Thanks to all who have taken part in the ice cream debate. It is fascinating that so many combinations existed. Regarding Ice Cream Lover’s letter about two circular sponges with a scoop of ice cream sandwiched between — I think that was known as a “squasher”. Correct me if I am wrong. — A. MacAroon.
Rubbish collections
All kinds of rubbish is discarded at the rear of council property and other places.
This could cause expense if someone was to set items on fire. I feel the council should revert back to collecting rubbish as it is a big problem and brings down the property. — Jimmy Borland.
