Jute and Jitterbugging

Some of the jitterbuggers.

Visitors were given a chance to experience jute and jitterbugging when they were transported back to the 1940s at Verdant Works in Dundee today.
The family event was held as part of the Show Scotland museum weekend and it recreated the sights and sounds of the era with activities for all ages.

Period music was supplied by local band Havana Swing, while the FlyRight Dancers gave lessons and demonstrations of wartime classics such as the jitterbug and lindy hop.

A selection of vintage military vehicles were parked in the courtyard of the mill, courtesy of the Scottish Military Vehicle Group, and various re-enactors played the part of military and home front personnel on duty around the museum.

Dundee’s own role in the Second World War was also featured in a display of objects from the museum’s collections, along with local wartime memories and an activity area.
