DONS KEEN ON KERR
Aberdeen are poised to make a move for Dundee United midfielder Mark Kerr (writes Graeme Finnan).
The former Falkirk man, signed by Ian McCall five years ago, is out of contract in the summer and it’s believed the Dons see him as the ideal replacement for the departing Barry Nicholson.

The Tangerines would be disappointed to lose the 26-year-old who has been one of their most consistent performers — but, even if he does decide to move on from Tannadice, it may not be to the Granite City.

Hearts are long-term admirers, while Colin Calderwood’s Nottingham Forest, who won promotion to the Championship at the weekend, and Burnley are also keeping tabs on the situation.

Today, United boss Craig Levein said he was unaware of any Aberdeen approach, although he admitted Kerr was free to talk to other clubs

“I haven’t heard anything about Aberdeen being interested in Mark, but he's out of contract in the summer, so he’s perfectly within his rights to speak to whoever he pleases,” said Craig.

Meanwhile, despite losing 2-1 to the Dons at Pittodrie on Saturday, the manager was generally pleased with the display.

And, with Motherwell losing to Celtic and Hibs drawing against Rangers, a UEFA Cup place is still very much within the Tangerines’ grasp.

“I thought we played well, but we didn’t take advantage of the superiority we had.

“As far as a UEFA Cup place goes, anything can still happen. Aberdeen’s win on Saturday brings them into it and all we can do is keep plugging away and see what happens.”

The United boss had no injuries to report from the weekend and was happy with the contribution of young striker Johnny Russell, who replaced Noel Hunt at the interval.

“I felt we needed to change things at half-time and I was very pleased with what Johnny did when he came on for Noel.

“He’s been in and around the first team for a while and he’s been doing well in the reserves. We’ve high hopes for him.”

The Federation of Dundee United Supporters Clubs’ held its Player of the Year event at Piperdam Golf Club last night.

United’s top goalscorer Noel Hunt was Player of the Year, while French midfielder Morgaro Gomis was Young Player of the Year, as voted for by member clubs.

Meanwhile, over at Dens Park, Dundee have been linked with recently-released St Johnstone defender Allan McManus. Livingston, one of Allan’s former clubs, are also thought to be keen on securing him.

He played a good number of first team games for Saints in the season just gone.
