| The painting of Keithick Mill, near Coupar Angus, was painted in 1923/24 when the artist was in his late teens. The work — and the subject — were close to his heart, and he later inscribed on the back that it was his first oil painting.
Expected to fetch between £10,000 and £15,000, it featured in the 80th birthday exhibition of his work.
“It will hopefully attract a lot of interest due to it being from such an early stage in his career, he must have been 16 or 17 when he painted it,” said auctioneer Lindsay Burns.
The painting is one of four examples by McIntosh Patrick which have been put up for sale by the owner, who is from the Dundee area.
The others are a watercolour of the Tay Bridge in winter from the artist’s studio (pre-sale estimate £10,000 to £15,000), a watercolour of Baldovie Toll (£6000 to £10,000) and an oil painting of the road to Loch Spout (£10,000 to £15,000).
The pictures will be sold at Lindsay Burns and Co, King Street, Perth, on Tuesday, April 29.
Another local artist featured is James Watterston Herald, from Arbroath. His picture of young girls picking bluebells is expected to fetch £6000 to £8000. |
