Husband’s tearful plea to missing wife

Missing woman Linda Hill.

The tearful husband of a woman who disappeared from her caravan home at Riverview, Monifieth today begged, “Please let us know you are all right” (writes Steven Bell).
Kenny Hill said he had no idea why Linda, a mother of one with a young granddaughter, had vanished early on Sunday morning.

Linda (41) was last seen when she went for a walk around 6.45am, and the police inquiry has included a major search of the foreshore area around Riverview Caravan Park and nearby Barry Buddon.

An operation that involved a search and rescue helicopter and sniffer dogs drew a blank, however, and was stood down in the early hours today.

Kenny was this afternoon comforting Linda’s mum Elizabeth at the caravan park as they sought to come to terms with the events of the last 48 hours.

He said, “We thought she had her phone with her, and about £200 in cash and her credit cards, but we found them in the shed, so she’s out there with nothing.

“We’ve tried speaking to everybody, to her family and friends, and I know the police have done that as well. I just can’t understand it.

“She doted on her daughter and granddaughter and would never leave them. All the spare time she has she spends with Claire and Blossom.”

Kenny said he and Linda had been out for a meal in Broughty Ferry on Saturday night before returning to Monifieth and drinking in nearby pub The Vault.

“She’d had pneumonia recently and wasn’t her proper self because of that,” he continued. “I thought it would be a good idea to get out of the house and cheer her up with a meal.

“We went to the pub after and had a few drinks. She was fine — I’d love to be able to say that we’d had a fight because at least that would be an explanation, but there was nothing like that.”

Linda’s decision to go for a walk was described as “well out of character,” particularly as she went without the couple’s two dogs.

Kenny continued, “When we found her phone it had 29 missed calls on it, and that shows the kind of popular person she is.

“I just want to say to her, ‘Please get in touch with someone. If not us then somebody else, or the police, and let us know that you are all right’.”

Tayside Police said today there was concern for Linda, and appealed to anyone who has seen her since 6.45am on Sunday or who knows her current whereabouts to get in touch.

“A helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth dida search of the beach and foreshore near Riverview Caravan Park,” said a spokeswoman.

“Tayside Police also enlisted the assistance of search and rescue dogs to a search pathways leading from the caravan park to the beach and Barry Buddon.”

Cadets and troops from a local barracks stopped live firing and pyrotechnics to aid the search.

It’s understood the missing woman’s description has been circulated to all local police.

A Coastguard spokesman earlier said, “We don’t think she has gone too far towards Carnoustie and we don’t think she has gone into the city as police have checked CCTV footage and don’t seem to have found anything.

“We are concentrating on the foreshore and checking all possible routes that a person out walking would take.”

Linda is 5ft 2, of medium build with brown hair and brown eyes. She has a tattoo of a dolphin on her right shoulder blade.

She is believed to have been wearing a white shirt, a blue two-tone Regatta jacket, dark blue jeans, and black knee length boots.

Anyone with knowledge of her whereabouts is asked to contact Tayside Police on Dundee 223200.
