Dundee City Council’s anti-social behaviour team is a waste of money.
I live in Burnside Court and my life is being made a misery by one tenant. This has been going on for years, but despite warnings there are problems.
There is noise at 2, 3 or 4am and the council suggests putting the case on the list for the out-of-hours, anti-social behaviour team. I phone them. They don’t even answer their phones.
The whole problem is the council using this multi as a dumping ground for trouble-makers. There are many decent, respectable people trying to get out of here. — Disgusted Tenant.
Branches hazard for drivers
Overgrown bushes on the road between Lyndhurst Terrace and Place.
As a driver I am appalled at the state of the road between Lyndhurst Terrace and Lyndhurst Place in Dundee.
It is strewn with branches and is extremely overgrown.
My car has had to go over large branches, and has been scratched on numerous occasions.
It is about time something was done about this. —J. Deasley, Lyndhurst Terrace, Dundee.
Out-of-date food given away
Can Dundee City Council environmental health department say if it is legal for a supermarket, or any other shops, to sell out- of- date foods whether in tins or not?
Some shops sell old stock at reduced prices. Where I used to live, I remember when I was younger some shops gave out-of-date tins free to the public. Workmen often got first choice. — We Who Know.
[A Dundee City Council spokesman said, “It is an offence under The Food Labelling Regulations 1996 for shops to sell food after the expiry of its “Use-by” date.
“While it is not an offence for a shopkeeper to sell food after its ‘best before’ date, an offence is committed if the food is unfit for human consumption or so contaminated that it would not be reasonable to expect it to be used for human consumption in that state.
“If the shopkeeper still decides to sell food beyond its best before date, the onus is on them to establish that the food is safe to eat.
“The longer the time the food is sold after its best before date, the less likely the food will be safe to eat.
“Shops must display clear, prominent notices informing customers that food is past its best before date.”]
Ignorance of law no excuse
I’m fed up reading of foreign nationals being fined and given a token ban for drink-driving.
Their solicitors use the same excuse — they didn’t understand our laws.
Ignorance is no excuse.
These people should be deported and their country of origin billed for the flight. — E. G.
Wendy can’t be serious
Wendy Alexander cannot seriously expect us to believe her performance is worth 10 out of 10.
What would she have had to do to get a zero?
The only people who think her performances have been worthy of a perfect 10 have been nationalists as she has done a great job for the SNP. — Political Connoisseur.
Why stop there?
I note recent calls for Wendy Alexander to resign. Why stop there?
Holyrood enterprise minister Jim Mather waited five months before telling officials about £350,000 of shares he held in Scottish companies. — Holyrood Watcher.
Dogs left homeless
My dogs Oscar and Brandy are now minus their summer home thanks to someone pinching their kennel on Tuesday night last week from the Ballindean Road area of Dundee. — Angry Owner.
Memories of Dundee twisting marathon
Does anyone remember the twist marathon in Dundee’s JM Ballroom?
I am a distant relative of one of the winners, Jim McKenzie. A Dundee fellow, he won about £100, a small fortune in those days.
He was presented with the cash by the owner of the JM, Murdie Wallace. He was a real character. I used to think he was such a movie star.
The twisters who took part in the marathon would twist for days on end. Some breaks were allowed but it was a hard, long battle to stay on the dance floor.
I remember the winners’ legs swollen up like balloons and some of them had to sleep for days to recover. — Ian McKenzie, New Jersey, NY State.
CCTV and parking fines
I read with interest English councils are going to give people parking fines by using CCTV.
Dundee people need not worry as the city council only uses CCTV to fight crime. That is what they recently told Dundee taxi operators who asked them to use the cameras to catch private cars picking up fares on the streets. — T. W.
