| Education bosses have denied the claim, but Kayleigh Mullen is furious at the way she claims her daughter Jazmine was treated.
Jazmine fell into a bin while running in the playground of Ancrum Road Primary School during her lunch break last Thursday. She tripped and fell into the bin, which was behind a metal frame mounted on a wall.
The five year-old suffered a cut to her cheek and bruising around her eye, but the only person who came to her aid, says her mum, was her big sister Tiagan, who herself is only six years-old and in primary two.
The girls’ mother remains livid at what she claims is a lack of proper supervision in the school. “There are two playgrounds at Ancrum Road, one for primary ones and twos, and one for older children,” she said.
“There are four playground assistants, but they were all in the other playground. Jazmine fell and then her big sister had to run around like a headless chicken trying to find someone to help her.”
Mrs Mullen said when the school contacted her to say Jazmine had been hurt, they played down her injuries.
“They made it sound like just a little graze, but she needed stitches and can’t see out of her right eye,” said Mrs Mullen. She was covered in blood and is frightened to go back to school.”
A spokesman for Dundee City Council’s education department said, “There was a member of staff in the primary one and primary two side of the playground at the time and they assisted the pupil.” |
