| Liz was at Liff Primary School to speak with some of the children and explain the importance of taking part in the Great Wee Scottish Walk in May.
The event is aimed at encouraging children under 16 years to make the most of exercise, family entertainment and outdoor activity while also raising money for over 100 charity, community and schools projects in Scotland.
Some of the Dundee-based charities that will benefit are Alzheimers Scotland, Caring for Kids and the British Heart Foundation.
Speaking at the school today, Liz said, “I am always happy to be involved in any event which encourages children to take part and do activities.
“It’s also good when they do the walks to raise money for charity, in particular children’s charities.”
This is the first year the wee walks have been recognised as part of Scotland’s ongoing healthy living campaign.
Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon MSP has endorsed the walks saying, “In a Scotland where too few children are reaching the recommended healthy levels of physical activity and we are seeing rising levels of childhood obesity, it is hugely encouraging to see organisations like the Great Scottish Walks organise events such as the eight wee walks across the country.
Entry to a wee walk or fun run is £5 per child, aged between three and 16, while parents and children under three years walk free.
The Dundee event will take place at Camperdown Park on Sunday, May 4. For further details visit www.greatscottishwalk.com. |
