| Members of the public contacted the Tele to express their concerns over almost 100 boisterous music fans, many of whom had camped out overnight on the pavement, leaving the surround area strewn with rubbish, broken glass and other debris.
Concerns were also being voiced about possible under-age drinking amongst some of the group.
Some of the waiting crowd were also spilling onto the road at Nethergate, causing problems for passing motorists.
Nearby local business were forced to clean up the mess made by the crowd.
Staff from Groucho’s are understood to have filled several bin bags with rubbish this morning in an attempt to tidy up the area.
Management at the shop said they were taking every measure possible to ensure the safety of customers, the public and queuing music fans.
Groucho’s Manager Alastair Brodie said security guards would patrol the area throughout the night and the shop would work closely with Tayside Police to ensure everyone’s safety.
They will also monitor CCTV footage of the crowd should any incidents occur.
“We’re always concerned for the safety of people in the queue and also making sure that we keep the thoroughfare clear for pedestrians,” Mr Brodie.
When we arrived this morning we spent a long time getting the queue in single file as it was all bunched up and clearing away the rubbish.”
Groucho’s have taken the extraordinary step of issuing the crowd with numerical tickets to ensure no-one queue jumps. |
