| Councillor Derek Scott, who represents The Ferry ward, said the council has been getting plaudits from his constituents for the work being carried out to the walkway along the foreshore between Stannergate and Douglas Terrace.
So far over £800,000, much of it contributed by external organisations, has been allocated to the improvement works, which were required partly because of coastal erosion and partly because the route has been in existence for almost 80 years and was in need of a facelift.
“Before the improvement programme started I got lots of complaints from people who use the walkway about its condition and the need for it to be upgraded,” Mr Scott said.
“Now my constituents are telling me how pleased they are with the improvements which have already been made and that there are more to come.”
Mr Scott said the route was very well used, not only by people walking, exercising their dogs and cycling for recreation, but also as a commuter route by residents of Broughty Ferry on their way to work in Dundee.
“I have been championing the upgrading of this route for several years — both in terms of its structural integrity and its appearance — and it is good to see that the work it needs is being done,” he said.
Among the outside contributors to the project are the Scottish Government through £400,000 from the vacant and derelict land fund and sustainable transport charity SUSTRANS, who originally put in £100,000 and have recently committed another £50,000. |
