Teacher faces hearing again

Mr and Mrs Ross arriving for today’s hearing.

Suspended Dundee schoolteacher Linda Ross was quizzed today when her disciplinary hearing before education officials reconvened.
The deputy head of Sidlaw Primary was suspended from her post in September after her husband Vic blew the whistle to the Press about alleged problems at the school.

An independent inquiry into the allegations, which reported in December, found there was some substance to the concerns raised by Mr Ross, but found other claims were exaggerated.

Nonetheless, a review of security was carried out at Sidlaw View and other schools after the inquiry and incident reporting systems have been tightened.

However, Dundee City Council haspressed forward with disciplinary action against Mrs Ross and the second session of the hearing took place at Tayside House today.

Mrs Ross is accused of making allegations about the school outwith council procedures and practices, distributing unauthorised material to staff at the school on September 5 and refusing to comply with a request from Lena Waghorn, the head of primary education, on the same date.

Today’s hearing was again chaired by Dundee City Council’s director of education, Anne Wilson, who was supported by the authority’s education human resources manager Janet Robertson.

Mrs Ross, who dismissed her union representative in December, appeared at today’s closed doors meeting without any formal representation.

Her husband Vic, who said today he believed the council was using “gutter” tactics to “make mud stick” on his wife, was also due to give evidence to the panel today, as were a number of employees from within the education department.

Mr Ross said he hoped for a swift conclusion to the disciplinary hearing, but said it was unclear when the process would be concluded.
