| Robson’s thunderous 30-yard winner in front of the television cameras in the Scottish Cup tie at Clyde last night will only have increased his stock.
And the list of would-be buyers is likely to grow — Celtic, Rangers, Nottingham Forest and Burnley, whose manager Owen Coyle is being tipped to launch his bid in the next few days, are already on it.
Tangerines boss Craig Levein is aware of all that, but was remaining relaxed today.
“When a player like Barry scores a goal like he did last night, people will sit up and take notice and there will be more speculation, that’s football,” said Craig.
“I hear it, too, but, what I will say is that, for all the talk so far, we have not had one offer for Barry Robson and I’ll be happy if things stay that way.”
It’s generally accepted that an offer stretching into seven figures would be enough to get the 29-year-old Scotland international. That, though, should not be taken as a desire on United’s part to cash in on their skipper.
“What is an acceptable offer is a matter for the boardroom and not me. No-one here, though, at any level, has given the impression we want one to come in and I want to keep working with my good players.”
Last night’s Broadwood victory was secured with no major injury problems, though striker Jordan Robertson did pick up a knock and might be a slight doubt for Saturday’s visit of Aberdeen.
Goalkeeper Grzegorz Szamotulski is now not expected back from Warsaw, where he is receiving treatment for a knee ligament strain, in time for that one. With his long-term future to be sorted out, Szamotulski is targeting the game at Kilmarnock on Saturday week.
If fellow-countryman Lukasz Zaluska proves his fitness in the reserves next week, however, he may play in that one as the manager takes the chance to see him in first-team action before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
It was confirmed today that Stuart Duff has now left United — he could be back on Saturday, though, as an Aberdeen player. |
