| When she adopted a rescue cat, Maureen Gorman never thought he would end up rescuing her — but when her computer developed an electrical fault, it was Wallace who raised the alarm.
Mrs Gorman, of Macdonald Smith Drive, told the Tele, “Early yesterday morning I woke up and the cat was going crazy, running up and down, meowing and jumping on the bed.
“It was out of character, so eventually I got up. I thought he might want something to eat or to go out.
“But when I got downstairs there was a burning smell. Wallace ran over to the computer. I then saw that the back of it was smoking and on fire.
“I was just in time. If I had been any longer, it would have gone on fire. If it hadn’t been for that cat, we could have been burnt to death. It turns out he rescued us!”
Her 13-year-old daughter, Pamela, was also in the house at the time.
Mrs Gorman (42) was able to unplug the computer and stop the fire spreading. Her smoke alarm had failed to sound.
“He got me in time,” she said. “If it hadn’t been for the cat, it could have been a lot worse. Heaven knows what could have happened. I just think it’s absolutely great. I’m taken away with him — he’s just wonderful.”
She adopted Wallace from the Arbroath and District Cat Protection Centre only four weeks ago. The five-year-old cat is usually timid, having been mistreated and abandoned in Aberdeen. |
