| Adam Davidson (25), of Mauchline Avenue in Mid Craigie, said it was lucky his children hadn’t been home when the incident occurred in the early hours of this morning.
Mr Davidson is now concerned the burned-out vehicle will prove a dangerous attraction to children during the school holidays.
Authorities have told him that it could be up to two weeks before the wreckage is removed.
“The car had been parked there since Christmas Eve, and it was vandalised on Christmas Day,” said Mr Davidson today.
“Then it was set alight by kids last night. I don’t know who they were, but I reckon they were about 12 years old.
“There were two explosions. Fortunately my kids were at a friend’s when it happened.
“I’m now concerned the car is a hazard to kids in the area. It’s melted right into the road.
“I phoned the council but they said to phone the police. I was then told that it could take up to seven days for them to send the paperwork and another five for it to be uplifted.
“They are saying they can’t do anything until the paperwork is completed.”
Tayside Fire and Rescue confirmed that appliances from the Kingsway station attended the scene shortly after 1am and extinguished the flames.
A spokesman for Tayside Police said they had so far been unable to trace the owner of the car. He added that details would be passed to the council so the vehicle can be uplifted.
A Dundee City Council spokeswoman said, “As soon as we are notified by the police we will have the vehicle uplifted.” |
