| The group of pals, most of them regulars at the Craw’s Nest bar, have decided to share their charms with the general public by agreeing to becoming calendar girls — and boys — to raise money for cancer charities.
The driving force behind the initiative was Lisa Elrick, who used her powers of persuasion to convince her friends it would be a good idea to ‘get their kit off’ and, with only a few strategically placed props to preserve their dignity, smile for the camera.
Lisa, who works for BT, said, “My pal Sandra Norman and I decided we wanted to do something to raise money for cancer charities and, just through speaking about it with our friends, we came up with the idea of the 2008 calendar.
“Originally it was just going to be the lassies doing a ‘calendar girls’ type of thing for breast cancer research.
“But, speaking to some of the lads we know, we realised they were quite serious about doing something to help fund research into testicular cancer as well.
“Having spoken about it at length — and often over a few drinks at the Craw’s Nest — we decided we would do two calendars and, just to make it that wee bit more interesting, the boys have done the one for breast cancer and us girls have done the testicular cancer one.
“We went round local companies and explained what we were doing and had no problem getting enough sponsorship to cover the £600 production costs, so every penny we make from the sale of the calendars will go towards vital cancer research.
“To begin with, some of those we approached to feature in the calendars were a bit shy about revealing themselves to the camera — especially the boys — but once a few of us got the ball rolling, everyone relaxed and enjoyed the experience.
“Luckily enough, two of our friends — photographer John Fairfield and graphic artist Mark Traynor — came on board and agreed to use their talents to produce a very professional product and we hope the people of Carnoustie and surrounding area put their hands in their pockets and buy them.
“It’s all done very tastefully, although it’s maybe not the sort of thing you would want to be buying for your granny — unless she’s quite broad-minded and has a slightly wicked sense of humour, that is!’
The calendars — costing £6 each or £10 for the pair — can be bought by calling Lisa on 01241 856784 or Sandra on 01241 856967. |
