Scotland’s minister for public health toured Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital today and thanked staff for their efforts throughout the year.
Dundee East MSP Shona Robison took to the wards to see how staff and patients cope with the stresses and strains of spending the festive season in hospital.

She said it was difficult keeping the spirit of patients up over the Christmas period, but NHS staff did an admirable job in doing so.

Ms Robison visited the children’s ward and high dependency unit, the neonatal intensive care area and also inspected the kitchens, where staff were preparing to cook hundreds of Christmas meals.

The health minister said, “For most people this is the time of year they look forward to time off with their families. It’s important we remember hospital staff who will be working through the holidays ensuring patients are taken care of and services are uninterrupted.

“I will take the opportunity to thank the staff I meet on behalf of the people of Scotland. I know from the many patients I meet how much people value the staff and excellent service they receive when they need to call on the health service.”
