| Lynsey Roddy, of Ballochmyle Drive, was bitterly disappointed on Friday after unpacking her £5000 kitchen, only to discover an indispensable corner carousel unit was missing. Trimming for her integrated microwave was also missing and, according to her kitchen fitters, the one length of worktop she was advised to get would not be enough.
Without the missing parts, fitters can’t install the kitchen and B&Q say they can’t replace the missing parts until October 26, leaving the family kitchenless through the October school holidays and beyond.
Mrs Roddy’s nine-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter had to eat digestive biscuits for breakfast last week, as they have no fridge to keep milk or other food products.
The situation is made worse by the fact Mrs Roddy’s son Liam is lactose intolerant and his food often requires special preparation.
Mrs Roddy said B&Q had offered £100 to buy a temporary combi-oven and steamer, which would still leave them without a fridge.
“They told me I shouldn’t have taken my old kitchen out anyway — but how can you put a new kitchen in before taking out the old one?” she told the Tele.
“Disappointed doesn’t begin to describe how I feel about this. I can’t believe a company of their size can’t resolve this sooner.
“I’ve been through every emotion. It’s just ridiculous. We’ve been eating takeaways this week but we can’t afford to do that every night and it’s not good for the kids.
“We’ve spent a lot of money on this kitchen and it’s coming up to Christmas, I’m not sure what we’re going to do.”
A B&Q spokesperson said, “B&Q is sorry to hear of the problems experienced by Mrs Roddy. Having raised her concerns with us, we have forwarded them to our customer service action team, who will investigate as a matter of urgency.” |
