. . . and so did Mandy

Mandy Wilson (44) enrolled at Dundee College in 2003 after a back injury forced her to give up work and today gained her HND in accounting.
The mum of three, who has been deaf in one ear with only limited function in the other since age seven, overcame her initial fears about full-time study and managed to juggle family life and school.

She added, “I am dead keen to apply the skills I have gained at college in a real environment and am willing to offer my services to any local charities just to add the experience to the theory.”

JUNE AND GAIL

Mother and daughter June O’Rourke and Gail Carrick, were incredibly proud of each other.

While June overcame health problems, including arthritis, high blood pressure and mini-strokes, to gain her HNC in social care today, Gail, who has six children, held down a full-time job while gaining her SVQ III health and social care qualification.

VICKY

Also graduating today with an HNC in fine art was former Grove Academy pupil Vicky Gazeley, whose success was tinged with sadness after losing her grandmother, Helen Muir, to cancer while realising her dream.
