| Thirty-year-old Graeme Buick was last seen in Commercial Street last Friday night and today his parents Susan and Graham appealed for anyone who had seen their son since or know where he is now to contact them or the police as soon as possible.
Speaking at Tayside Police Headquarters in Dundee, Susan said, “To the people that may have seen Graeme or the people he may be staying with we’d like them to come forward – now is the time for them to come forward.
“To Graeme we would say we love you son and just want you to come home.
“If you feel that you want to stay by yourself for a while please let us know that you are safe.”
Graeme has two young daughters aged three-and-a-half and the youngest daughter turned one last Saturday.
Susan said it was completely out of character for him to have missed his daughter’s first birthday.
She said, “Graeme is quite a shy lad really, very polite and very well spoken.
“He is a happy-go-lucky sort of guy. This is really out of character.
“He wouldn’t put his dad and his family through this.”
Detective Inspector Willie Semple said police are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen Graeme walking through Dundee City Centre after 10.25 pm last Friday.
Meanwhile, police were today trawling through hours of CCTV footage from the city centre (writes Graham Huband).
The last confirmed contact with Graeme was in Commercial Street close to Tickety Boo’s pub between 10pm and 10.25pm last Friday.
The 30-year-old, of Ballantrae Gardens, Douglas, made two calls to family members from a payphone and his manner did not give them cause for concern.
However, it appears he vanished after the calls were made and has not been seen or heard from since.
It later transpired Mr Buick had been involved in a fight outside Harlequins bar in Princes Street early on Friday evening.
He suffered an injury to his head in the brawl and blood is known to have spattered onto the blue Stone Island jacket he was wearing.
Mr Buick visited the home of his brother in Douglas after the fight. He cleaned himself up before heading back into town still wearing the bloodstained top.
Police have spoken with the man involved in the fight — and several others who helped split it up — but there is no suggestion any of the individuals are in any way involved in Mr Buick’s going missing.
Detective Inspector Willie Semple said today his disappearance was totally out of character and was causing increasing concern.
DI Semple said police inquiries were being ramped up and officers would tonight be visiting pubs and clubs in the city centre to speak to anyone who may recognise Mr Buick.
Missing person posters will be placed in pubs and leaflets will be handed to revellers in the hope of jogging people’s memories.
DI Semple said, “We are still doing a lot of work in the city centre which is the last area we know he was.
“We are doing a lot of reviews of CCTV footage and speaking to people in the area.
“He still had the (bloodstained) top on when he left his brother’s house and our best assessment is that he had it on when he was in the town centre.”
Anyone who has seen Mr Buick since last Friday, or has any information as to his whereabouts, should get in touch with Tayside Police immediately on Dundee 223200.
Information can also be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800555111.
