| Acting students from Dundee College’s HND course in acting and performance were using the city as a backdrop for their interpretations of classic film noir stories made famous by authors like Philip Marlowe and Raymond Chandler and immortalised in the movies of the 1940s and 50s.
Professional director and guest lecturer Laura Hayes has guided the 15 students on the course to recreate the atmosphere of noir as generated by Fritz Lang, Otto Preminger and Alfred Hitchcock.
Four performances were given today in and around the city churches and Overgate centre, with students in full costume.
Ms Hayes said, “Street theatre is immediate and exciting, anything can happen. It genuinely takes theatre out of institutions and brings a little bit of unexpected magic into the everyday — turning a crowd of strangers into allies.” |
