| The city council’s leisure, arts and communities committee will be asked on Monday to approve recommendations to limit bell-ringing sessions following complaints from the public and local traders.
It is proposed one session of up to an hour be granted once a month and that requests for a full peal, which can last up to three and a half hours, would only be allowed on an occasional basis and not more than once a year unless in exceptional circum-stances such as a national celebration or significant local anniversary.
Where possible peals would take place out of office hours to minimise impact on local business. It’s the three-hour plus peal that has caused most adverse reaction. |
