Drivers are real danger

The road up the Law.

I READ the article in the Tele about the condition of the surface of the road up the Law being dangerous.

It is not nearly as dangerous as some of the drivers using it as a racetrack.

The speed of some of these drivers is possibly the reason why the road is in a poor condition.

The Law is classed as a park and should have the same speed limits (10mph).

Some years ago, Law users approached Dundee City Council about installing speed bumps and were told it was not possible in case the Kellogg’s cycle race came back to the city.

Let’s hope common sense will prevail and some bumps will be laid. — Ever Hopeful.

£4000 for Alzheimer’s Scotland

The “ladies” before setting off across the bridge, pictured with Cath’s nephew Lewis Raitt, who organised the walk.

A BIG thank you to all local companies who donated vouchers, bottles gifts etc for our charity night, past employees of Yorkshire Metal for donating £206, Anya for waxing Keith and Ryan; to the “ladies” who walked the bridge, Gordon Strachan, Gordon Hunter and Gav and Jolly for football tops, and to everyone who bought raffle tickets and came in fancy dress.

It was a great night and we raised almost £4000 for Alzheimer’s Scotland Dundee branch. Neil would be so proud of you all. — Cath, Ross and Vicki McNab.

How long will road works take?
MY CHILD attends Happy Days Nursery, Claverhouse Road, Dundee, a place we used to reach by driving along Fountainbleau Drive, over the Forfar Road circle and onto Claverhouse Road. Simple.

For some time now, due to the road access works for Morrisons supermarket, we have had to detour through Fintry to travel down Forfar Road and turn right into Claverhouse Road. Fair enough, a wee bit longer on the journey, but progress has to be made.

However, this week, after making the Fintry detour, I joined the long line of Forfar Road traffic to eventually find it was no longer possible to turn right into Claverhouse Road.

Instead I had to stay in the snake-line of traffic up to the Kingsway circle, go right the way round the circle and join the snake-line of traffic back down to turn left into Claverhouse Road.

What a lengthy palaver … with no prior warning it was going to happen.

The nursery tells me they’ve found out — after making their own way to the planning department — that Claverhouse Road is to close completely due to these roadworks, thus meaning anyone requiring vehicular access to Claverhouse will have to join the already busy Kingsway, travel along to Old Glamis Road and travel back on themselves to get access.

How many more delays is that going to cause?

Can the Tele find out for us when this closure is going to take place and how long it will take before things get back to normal? — Late For Work.

[A spokesman for Malcolm Construction Services said, “Unfortunately, the right turn from Forfar Road into Claverhouse is unlikely to be up and running until Christmas.

“We have a contraflow system in place just now on Forfar Road while we construct the Dundee-bound stretch of the road.

“Once completed, the contraflow will then switch while we work on the Forfar bound stretch of the road.

“Once we have constructed both carriageways it's then a case of phasing the traffic lights in — and that should take a week after both sections of the carriageway are completed.

“Once the lights are phased in you will be able to turn right into Claverhouse Road.”]

Are we insured?
I AM a disabled taxi card user. I read in the Tele the row between Dundee City Council and 203020 taxis.

This is the only company we are only allowed to use. Can the council please assure me users of this firm are insured? We have the right to know. — Taxi Card User.

[A spokeswoman for Dundee City Council said, “Checks on vehicle documentation are carried out by the police and no problems relating to this have been brought to the attention of the licensing committee.”]

No arrears
I HAVE worked in the NHS for over 20 years. I voted against Agenda For Change as soon as I heard the word banding.
I HAVE worked in the NHS for over 20 years. I voted against Agenda For Change as soon as I heard the word banding.

I knew the lower paid would be banded unfairly and I wasn’t wrong. We were then told arrears of pay would be with everyone by December last year and I have still received nothing. I am not alone.

I phoned the Agenda For Change team but they couldn’t give any information. What is going on? I want the correct banding and my arrears of pay. — Fed Up.

BT kept me waiting
CONSIDERING BT owns the whole British phone network, I find it hard to comprehend that when I needed to speak to them, I had a 20-minute wait.
