| The move was confirmed in a letter from Angus Housing Association to more than 200 tenants.
It comes in response to recent incidents of anti-social and criminal behaviour.
Director Bruce Forbes today confirmed the association had started the process of trying to obtain anti-social behaviour orders to prevent specific individuals from entering Mid Craigie.
And, following talks with police and the council, it has been agreed a closure order will be sought for a problem house.
Mr Forbes says in his letter, “Obviously, I cannot for legal reasons give you the names of the people involved until the Sheriff Court has ruled on these matters.” However, he gave an assurance the association is doing everything within its powers “to rid Mid Craigie of the problems caused by these mindless people who deal in drugs and put everyone at risk by using guns”.
The area has been the scene of high-profile police operations in recent weeks, sparked by a string of alleged incidents including the discharging of a firearm.
Community leaders have since sought to defend the estate, stressing the majority of people are law abiding and that it has one of the lowest crime rates in the city.
Mr Forbes has appealed to residents to work together with the association’s staff and the police to stamp out the “mindless behaviour” which has focused attention on the area. He acknowledged people might fear retribution if they pass on information to the authorities, but stressed complaints would be treated in strict confidence.
The director continued, “Recent events have taken our concerns to a whole new level.
“Experience in England has shown that when guns are involved, children can sometimes end up being the victims.
“Angus Housing Association believes the time to act is now to prevent such tragic events in Dundee.
“We assure our tenants we will vigorously use all of the powers available to rid Mid Craigie of the fear and distress these recent incidents have caused.
“If that means having to evict the individuals, this is an option we are committed to pursue.” |
