Carnoustie bus routes public meeting
Stagecoach today said it would consider a route revision in Carnoustie after a public meeting in the town’s Panmure Centre at 6.15 tomorrow night.
The bus company’s new service has changed from travelling on the main street to taking in smaller, residential roads.

Concerned residents in James Street, Thomas Street and Ravensby Road have, so far, collected more than 250 names on a petition protesting against the change.

They state that a double-decker bus going up James Street, which has no pavements, is unsuitable since mothers with prams and people in wheelchairs use the road. They also claim buses turning into James Street from Barry Road have to take up the whole of the road when turning a corner, forcing cars to have to reverse, and that the 10-minute service has added to congestion on these smaller roads.

Stagecoach also came under fire recently from Easthaven residents, who have been left with a depleted service as a result of the new timetable.

Today, Doug Fleming, managing director for Stagecoach East Scotland, said bus chiefs will discuss the route after taking opinions from members of the public at the meeting.

He said, “A meeting with councillors and Angus Council roads and transport staff has taken place regarding the route at James Street/Ravensby Road and a further meeting is arranged for Thursday evening, where there will be the opportunity of an open forum.

“Following the points discussed, decisions will be taken about possible route revisions.”

The state of the road and the lack of pavements in James Street was discussed at last week’s meeting of Carnoustie Community Council. Councillor Helen Oswald said council work on the road and the installation of footpaths had been postponed due to the council waiting for Scottish Water to complete works to sewers before they proceed.
