As long as it takes – Rae
As he reflected on last night’s marathon CIS Cup penalty shoot-out win against Livingston, Dundee boss Alex Rae today praised the strength of character shown by his players (writes Graeme Finnan).
The Dark Blues were never in front of their Lothian guests until Jani Sturm slotted in a penalty to give the home side a 6-5 shoot-out win after the scores had been tied at 2-2 after 120 minutes of football.

And, although the clock at Dens was approaching 10.30, home fans and the manager went home happy after watching their side battle to a place in the third round.

“I didn’t care how long it took, just as long as we got there,” said Alex today.

“Looking back at the game, I’ve got to take my hat off to the boys. To come back twice from being a goal behind and also getting through after falling behind in the penalty shoot-out shows the determination we have in the team at the moment.”

After their exertions last night, the first-team squad were getting a well-deserved break today.

However, when they return tomorrow, among the ranks will be a foreign trialist — a defender — who will be given the chance to show what he can do.

Although he wasn’t revealing any names, Alex said, “We’ll see how he goes, but it all depends on the finances if we want to take it any further.”
