Dundee defender PAUL DIXON was quick off the mark as the Dark Blues began pre-season training today. Dixon is watched by team-mates KEVIN McDONALD (No. 7) BRIAN CLARK (No. 20) and recently-signed goalkeeper CRAIG SAMSON (No. 8).

There were plenty of fresh faces on view as Dundee kicked off pre-season training today with a tough double session (writes Tom Duthie).
Goalkeeper Craig Samson was with the squad as he signed the one-year deal agreed with boss Alex Rae at the end of last week, and also meeting their team-mates for the first time were summer signings David Worrell and David O’Brien.

And, as expected, a midfielder and a centre forward from the Czech Republic began trial spells with the Dark Blues.

That, and the fact his entire squad were free of injury as they reported back after the summer break, made the manager a happy man.

“It’s good to be back and it is very pleasing that we do not have anyone being forced to miss out the first sessions, because we do not want people playing catch-up when we are putting the hard fitness work in,” said Alex.

As well as getting back to training himself, Alex is also still working towards adding more new faces and, while he had nothing concrete to report, there could be developments on that front soon.

“I am at the stage of waiting for a couple of phone calls and, when they come, I will have a clearer picture of the chances of more people coming in this week,” he added.
