Jambo beyond budget
Dundee United boss Craig Levein insists he won’t be bringing Julien Brellier to Tannadice in the summer (writes Graeme Finnan).
The powerful Hearts midfielder is out of contract at Tynecastle and had been linked with a possible move to Tayside.

However, while Craig admitted he is a big admirer of the 25-year-old Frenchman, financial restraints mean he is well beyond the Tannadice gaffer’s budget.

“He’s definitely a player I like, but he is way out of our price league,” said Craig today.

Steven Robb, meanwhile, continues to be troubled by injury problems.

The left-sided wing-back returned to training at the tail-end of last week and hopes were high he would be fit to be included for the trip to face Dunfermline on Saturday.

However, a setback in training means he now falls into the doubtful category for the East End Park fixture.

“Steven was training with the lads yesterday, but felt his hamstring and had to pull out,” said Craig.

“He’ll spend some time with the physio and we’ll see how he is over the next few days.

“It’s been a frustrating time for him and just seems to be one thing after the other.”

One man who has done his first-team chances no harm is young striker David Goodwillie, who bagged two goals for the reserves in the 3-0 win over Aberdeen at Links Park, Montrose, yesterday.

The 18-year-old could even lay claim to a hat-trick as it was his cross which was deflected in by a Dons defender for United’s third.

“David has been doing a lot better in training recently and it was good to see him get a few goals yesterday,” added Craig.

“Hopefully, we’ll see him on the park for the first team before the season ends.”

Australian trialist Joel Allwright has arrived at the club. The 19-year-old attacking midfielder will remain at Tannadice for the next fortnight to give the manager and his backroom staff a good opportunity to assess his talents.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed youngster Keith Watson will require surgery on his injured kneecap.

The 17-year-old will spend the next month or so building up the muscles around the injured joint before going under the knife.
