Vandals hit nursery playground

Some of the results of the vandals’ visit.

Vandals have caused damage estimated at £1000 to a Dundee nursery’s outdoor play area (writes Alex Schweitzer-Thompson).
Staff at the Little People Nursery in Baird Avenue returned to work today to discover some equipment missing and some smashed and thrown over a fence.

But the nursery insists it will try to fix things quickly for the sake of its 70 children, aged up to five.

Nursery nurse Lisa Greasley said, “The nursery will carry on, but the children will not be able to go outside for a while. Their activities will be limited due to these vandals. This is an area where two- and three-year-olds play, and some sick person has ruined it for them.

“We’re not sure how it’ll be replaced, because good outdoor toys are very expensive. I reckon the cost to us to replace what’s been damaged would be about £1000.

“We spend a lot of time outside on good days, but now there’s no chance of doing that. It’s just a mess and everything is broken.”

Nursery cook Wendy Ritchie raised cash for the outdoor equipment with a sponsored head shave.

“I am really angry,” she said. “Vandalism is bad enough, but kids’ stuff? We worked really hard to raise the money for the equipment, and now the new chute and swings and everything else can’t be used.”

Anyone with information about the incident should contact Tayside Police on Dundee 223200.
