Anti-abuse DVD launched in Dundee
A hard-hitting, anti-abuse DVD targeting teenagers is being launched by a nationally-acclaimed Dundee charity.
The 10-scene film shot by Eighteen and Under focuses on sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, domestic violence, date rape, Internet safety and discrimination.

The production of the DVD follows a series of school visits that painted a worrying picture of some of the situations young people inadvertently found themselves.

The Dundee-shot film, featuring local adults and youngsters, is aimed at teenagers aged 14 and over and charity co-ordinator Laurie Matthew hopes its “thoughtful and sensitive” tone will have an impact.

Ms Matthew said the DVD would allow teachers, social workers, police and voluntary organisations to more easily open up dialogue with young people on these serious issues.

“Everyone who has seen it has been amazed by the quality of the production and the depth of conversation each scenario can evoke,” she said.

Last year, Ms Matthew warned about a lax attitude among youngsters to the phenomenon of Internet grooming. A number of children as young as eight admitted they’d meet up with strangers they first encountered at websites such as Bebo and Friendster.

The Internet safety scene was based around Ms Matthew’s findings.
