| The Dundee office of commercial property consultant Ryden is set to open new, larger premises at Unit 20, City Quay, on Monday.
Andy Boal, head of Ryden’s Dundee office said, “It’s an excellent modern development in the city — perfect for expanding companies like ours.”
Ryden joins a growing number of occupiers including Parr Architects, Cornerstone Community Care and Prophysio Scotland. Several other office occupiers have been secured and announcements are imminent.
Andy confirmed the latest developments reinforce a successful change of policy which is moving City Quay from solely retail and leisure to more of a mix.
Andy said, “When the new owners (Edinburgh-based Scottish Capital Group) bought the property from Forth Ports in early 2006, they took over a tried and tested retail centre but one which had never quite worked. They saw the attraction of City Quay as an office location and it has proved to be right.”
The plan for the area is that the buildings on stilts, fronting the dock, will generally be office space, while the terrace of units nearer Dock Street will generally be retail and leisure. Rydens estimate the area will hold 40% office occupiers with the remainder restaurants, while still retaining some retail space as well.
He was optimistic that along with the expected office announcements there will be further restaurant development. It is hoped the City Quay area will become a vibrant community, similar to transformed areas of Leith in Edinburgh. |
