Man flees after robbery attempt
A hunt has been launched for a would-be robber — thought to have been armed with a knife — who pounced on a woman in Dundee today (writes Bryan Kaye).
Police said a man confronted the victim and demanded her purse in the vicinity in Balunie Street, Douglas.

He struck about 10.30am and was last seen making off west in Balunie Avenue after failing in the robbery attempt.

The woman told officers the assailant may have had a knife.

Police rushed to the scene but the man had already made his getaway. He is thought to be about 30, and is described as 5’6” and wearing a blue woollen jacket and a blue woollen hat.

Police believe he may have a west coast accent.

“He approached the woman and asked for her purse and threatened her,” said a spokesperson.

“The woman was unhurt but she was quite distressed by the incident.”

Anyone who may have information that could help police with their inquiries is asked to contact (01382) 223200, or contact any officer.
