| Windows broken 20 times |
| I live in Fintry and a man in his 80s has been targeted over the years.
His windows were broken again this week and this sort of thing has been going on for over six years.
I think his windows have been broken over 20 times at least.
The police are informed and yet nothing seems to happen.
Why should decent, law-abiding citizens have to live like this? — Concerned Neighbour. |
| Residents have right to complain |

| I write in response to letter writer The Seer who implies that the Local Lib Dem FOCUS newsletter should not have raised the issue of the street signs in Pitkerro Drive/Alloway Terrace.
Perhaps the Seer has not noticed the former sign on a pole is unsightly and graffitied, as the photograph shows.
Residents rightly pointed this out to me and we have raised this with Dundee City Council. — Allan Petrie, East End FOCUS newsletter editor. |
| Nethergate mess |
| TIDY UP makes a valid complaint about the litter mess in Nethergate. Businesses and residents have rightly complained to me about it.
Only last week I was again in touch with the waste management department about it.
The basement areas are privately owned but I have asked if the department can make contact with the occupants. — Fraser Macpherson, West End Councillor, City Chambers, Dundee. |
| Litter query |
| A pensioner gets an on-the-spot fine for dropping a cigarette end in Dundee.
Later I saw a picture of kids queuing for T in the Park and the ground was strewn with litter.
Did these kids get the same treatment? I think not. — Hilary Anderson, Wishart Place, Dundee. |
| Take them to task |
| I respond to Ian Fraser’s letter.
This is not the first time a T-shirt producer has made racist and derogatory statements about the English.
I believe it is time to take people like this to task and stop this stupid and sad foolery and grow up.
If it was colour or religion related there would soon be an outcry. — John A. Brompton, Newport on Tay. |
| Plenty potholes |
| I wrote some weeks ago about Dundee’s Marryat Street and potholes.
It has now been patched up but there are still plenty of holes.
And if you venture to Caird Terrace, at the junction between there and Hepburn Street, there are two large holes.
I wonder how many inspections are carried out.
I don’t think there are many. — Jimmy Borland, Marryat Terrace, Dundee. |
| Prison calls |
| A PRISON inmate says he finds it embarrassing that a voice message tells the receiver he’s calling from prison.
I would suggest a feeling of embarrassment is preferable to the feeling of terror the shopkeeper and staff experienced when he robbed them at knifepoint. — Fair’s Fair. |
| Can’t get seat in cafe |

| WHO IS responsible for the café at Dundee Ice Arena? I go every week with my daughter and two grandsons and it costs £4.50 each to get in.
Halfway through the session we like to go to the café for a hot dog and a drink but can never get a seat as spectators sit in the café for hours with coats and bags on the seats.
There are plenty of seats for them at the arena.
We really enjoy going skating and the boys love it but it would be nice if we could all sit down and enjoy our food. — Isobel Dolan, St Giles Terrace, Dundee. |
| Water woe at Caird Hall |
| Black MARK to staff at Caird Hall who refused my son entry to the Jimmy Carr show because he was carrying a plastic bottle of water (bought at a nearby shop).
Suffering from asthma, he always has his inhaler and a bottle of water.
He put the bottle in a bin and was allowed entry.
Inside the hall he bought a bottle of water but this cost him £1 compared to the 50p he had spent on the discarded bottle. Tickets are expensive enough without this added cost.
Staff did not search handbags to see if they had food or drink. Then to top it all he and his friends couldn’t hear Jimmy.
It was not a night to remember. — Angry Mother. |
| Acoustics the problem |
| I WAS one of the many people who stayed on after the interval at the recent Jimmy Carr gig at Dundee’s Caird Hall.
The soundmen did indeed rectify the problems. However, the sound problems in the hall are not the fault of any soundmen or equipment.
It is the acoustics. I have been to many concerts and seen many comedians there and you can never hear properly.
Dundee City Council should rectify the problem or we will never have top entertainers coming to the city. –— Hiland Koo.
| Why isn’t something done about prostitutes? |
| WHEN ARE the police going to do something about the prostitution problem on Broughty Ferry Road, Dundee?
Something should be done to move on these ladies.
I have the unpleasant task of answering awkward questions from my kids.
Also our visitors have been propositioned.
I have phoned the police on several occasions but nothing gets done. These women are coming back night after night. — Angry Mum.
| Bring our boys home |
| IF TONY BLAIR wants to ensure the safety of our sailors in the disputed waters of the Middle East he should bring them home.
What would our reaction be if the Iranian Navy started patrolling the English Channel? — Observer. |
| Cynical act |
| Chancellor GORDON BROWN’S decision to raise the lowest tax rate from 10p to 20p is the most appalling cynical act I have ever witnessed by any politician.
The public probably has the opportunity at the next General Election to oust the man who will be the Prime Minister. It will be well deserved for deserting the low paid and giving hand-outs to Middle England voters. — E. Bignell, Buttars Road, Dundee. |
| Backlash |
| MAUREEN KELLOCK is correct to say Scots stand back and let things happen. When the ban on smoking in enclosed public places starts in July in England, I predict a backlash. — Smoke And Let Smoke.
